We all need a break away from our day-to-day lifestyles and responsibilities. So why not visit Cape Town, voted the most beautiful city in the world, and enjoy a holiday like no other. Well a long weekend or even a week may not be enough time to experience all that Cape Town has to offer, here are five things that should definitely be on your ‘to do’ list.
Number one – Chapman’s Peak Drive
This 9 kilometre drive skirts the rocky coastline of Chapman’s Peak, an extension of Constantia Berg. The drive offers stunning views of the ocean and local fishing harbour, with areas to stop and picnic nearly 600 metres about sea level.
Number Two – Boulders Beach
Take a trip to Simon’s Town and visit the penguins at boulders beach. This beach is ideal to take your family, as the massive boulders shield the beach from any major waves, allowing you to enjoy the sand and water. Remember, while the penguins look extremely cute, do not try touch or feed them, as their beaks could take your finger off.
Number Three – Cape Point
Located at the south west tip of the African continent, Cape Point was originally named ‘Cape Of Storms’ by Bartolomeu Dias in 1488. Cape Point has a rich fishing heritage and is home to over two hundred and fifty different bird species, as well as baboons, zebras and bush buck. This area is also a World Heritage Site.
Number Four – Surf In Muizenberg
Muizenberg beach is probably the safest and greatest place to learn to surf in the world. The gentle tidal breaks and sand bottomed waves, ensure that your introduction to the surfing is enjoyable, relaxed and possibly life changing. A common remark from local surfers is that once you get in the water, you will be hard pressed to try anything else.
Number Five – Seal Island
Take a boat trip out and visit Seal Island. These boat rides offer you a chance to feel the wind and water splashing on your face while you experience sea life up close and personal. These boat rides take you past the famous shipwrecks along the coast and moves around Seal Island. Be sure to bring your binoculars, as there is a good chance of spotting a few sharks hanging around the area.
Ensure that you incorporate these five activities into your holiday. They will allow you to experience the very best that Cape Town has to offer.
I am Greg Jones, a holiday lover and travel expert. I recently travelled for an event to one of the function venues in Cape Town and during my time off I managed to seek in some sight-seeing. I am completely sold; in fact I phoned my wife and demanded we immediately start saving for a trip to Cape Town.
