Some Of The Best Parisian Gardens

Paris is a modern city that has remained draped in history. Many of its parks and gardens were established by the ruling aristocracy long ago, while in the newer districts new green spaces are popping up. The park space in Paris is varied and attractive, with so many parks to suit different tastes that it would be hard not to spend an extra day in Paris if for nothing else than to peruse those on this list. Find a Paris hotel here, find the addresses of these gardens, and take a picnic basket.

Jardin des Tuileries

It must of course begin with the most famous and central of Paris gardens. Once the private grounds of the king and queen, the Tuileries today occupy a public space in their original location spread alluringly along the banks of the Seine. On one side there is the Louvre, and on the other the Place de la Concorde; the Tuilieries make for a lovely stroll in between sightseeing.

Jardin du Luxembourg

Another garden that was once off limits to all those who were not invited by their royal owners, the Luxembourg Gardens offer another picturesque set of fine-gravel lanes and symmetric trees that spread out and provide ample shade for picnickers. At the Palace, from which the gardens take their name, there is a reflective pond where children rent little model sailboats to race.

Parc Andre Citroen

Named for the founder of the car company, this is a Parisian park that is often overlooked by foreign visitors who prefer the old world elegance of royally designed green spaces. Located in the 15th arrondissement along the banks of the Seine, it offers a diversity of styles for varied tastes. There are wide green lawns and other areas that, for example, cater to the more architecturally-minded by providing elaborate fountains and sculptures.

Square Louis XIII

Known above all for its surrounds, this park is located in the beautiful Places des Vosges, a square that is surrounded on all sides by symmetrical and connected colonial buildings whose ground floors comprise a covered set of arcades. The statue in the center is of the king who gave the park its name, and at each of the four corners of the square, the distinct green spaces are exactly alike.

Square du Vert-Galant

Probably one of the most popular and yet well-hidden parks in the center of Paris is this one. It is located on the tip of the Ile de la Cite, behind the Cathedralede Notre Dame. The Seine forks and flanks the park space, whose stone banks slide slanted into the water. The benches provide seating from which to observe the Bateaux Mouches, or to watch people neck on the grass.

Bois de Vincennes

The biggest and best forest park is also where the Chateau of the same name is located. Combine a visit to the famous castle with a stroll through these large forested grounds. Located inside the forest is the Parc Floral de Paris, which is the loveliest place to see flowers in full springtime bloom.

There are dozens, if not hundreds, of city parks. These are some of the more popular and well-known parks, but they are all necessary visits for the avid traveler. Paris is such a perfect city for parks and gardens that simply walking around might present you with the unsolicited moment when you stumble across a hidden gem of green.
